Posting updates and images on Timeline
Suppose Bruce wants to share his pictures he took when he went to Shanghai recently with his connection Jessica. One way to do this is to attach a Flikr album in his Personal timeline and notify Jessica via @ function. We will discuss photo handling in section 7.13.
Note: There is a preview function if you attach any web pages/direct link of images in general but you are unable to attach social media links (public access) like Twitter, Facebook etc in your updates at this moment. If LMS has upgraded to include such links, then it will be made known to students.
Assign access level of Timeline posts
When Bruce clicks on the white space showing “Write here…” at Personal tab of Timeline page, the below window will pop up. Notice there are 4 icons available for selection at the bottom and the below picture highlights the functions of each icon.
Since Bruce want the post to be read only by his connections, he will assign My Connections as the access level. Below is the example update by Bruce using Flikr to display a photo album and so he does not need to upload any photo at all. Bruce also notifies his connection Jessica by using @Jessica in his message.
Jessica will receive a message from Bruce that she is mentioned as shown below:
Clicking on it will allow Jessica to see Bruce’s update and she can either like or comment on the update:
If she clicks on the Like icon, she will find that her like will be listed in the Likes Page.
Connections & Mentions
To see Bruce’s updates, Jessica can access her Connections and Mentions (ie someone mentions you with using @ function) tabs as shown below:
Below is a typical Connections Page for Jessica as she sees the posts that specify a connection and from two groups.
The Group page lists all the student’s posts in the groups he/she joins.
For eg in the case of Joe, below is his Group page:
